If you have ever had spyware on your system or Virus Heat before then you may be asking how do I protect my computer from virus heat and other spyware trojans. The answer is really simple. BUY PROTECTION. Thats it. I know I know you want to download that free anti-virus software but you are wasting your time. Remember that age old adage “You get what you pay for”. Well thats still true with free security software.
So what should I buy and what do I need?
You need to have a total of three things. And yes I will push a product on you but that’s only because it’s what I use and sell to all my customers. The three must haves for computer protection against viruses, spyware, trojans and malware are
1. Anti-Virus Software
2. Anti-Spyware Software
3. Firewall
With out all three you are leaving yourself open to attacks. The biggest thing you need is spyware protection. I know you here people talk about viruses all the time but things like Virus Heat got there because of Spyware not a virus. In fact most people who think they have a virus actually are infect with Spyware. They just don’t know the difference and to be honest it’s a vary grey area.
Windows Vista and XP have a built in firewall. The XP one sucks but the Vista firewall actually isn’t all that bad. It’s in no ways the best but for it being built into the OS it’s decent.
For Spyware protection there is one one product we sell in our shop and that is Spyware Doctor. The reason is simple. It’s the best on the market. It will not drag your PC down like Norton and Trend Micro will and does a great job at not only spyware protection but spyware removal.
For An anti Virus solution we recommend using the same program but just add the anti-virus option. This way you are only using one program for protection.
If you have Windows Vista then you really do not need to buy anything for a firewall. You can just use the built in one. If you run a business on your PC you may want to get a better one but if not then I really would not worry about it
If you have XP then you really should get a better firewall. If you still need all three then just purchase PCtools IS as this internet security product has all three in one.
